GOAL AND TOPIC

The ECSLAND conference aimed to stimulate a debate on European sacred landscapes and cultural heritage. Methods on landscape history, characterisation, identity, archaeology and architecture addressed by the ECSLAND Project, European Culture expressed in Sacred Landscapes, were illustrated and compared with other similar research.

Participants and keynote speakers on 24 April 2015 comprised scientists and policy makers from the European Landscape Convention, local authorities, European universities and religious institutions including Canterbury Cathedral and the Churches of Venice and Sardinia. The day before, participants were taken on an inspiring field trip to visit the sacred landscape of central Sardinia, during which ECSLAND partners discussed fundamental topics with participants outside the project.
